Thousands of runners will compete in the inaugural Altrincham 10k race, which takes place Sunday 5th September at 9:30am.

The run will start and finish in Altrincham town centre, with the mapped route taking the runners through Altrincham, Hale, Hale Barns and Timperley.

The event, organised by Runthrough, is open to runners of all abilities, whether they are just starting out or chasing a personal best.

Entry

Individuals will be charged £28 to sign up and compete in the Altrincham 10k . Entering as a group of six is significantly cheaper however, with an upfront cost of £100 – or £16.66 each. The fee also includes a unique themed medal, a Runthrough branded Top, chip timing and a goodie bag.

Where to see the runners in Altrincham, Hale, Hale Barns and Timperley

The circular route will begin and end in Altrincham town centre, turning down Ashley Road and spanning most of Hale Road.

Runners will then turn left on to Clay Lane, past St Ambrose College and Ringway Golf Club, before turning down Ashley Lane and eventually re-joining Clay Lane.

The route then continues up Thorley Lane, briefly taking a left turn down Grove Lane before heading up Moss Lane for the final few kilometres.

Each lap will be marked out with distance flags, with plenty of volunteers and spectators on the side lines cheering the contestants on.

An official photographer will be taking photos, but organisers are calling on spectators to take snaps and make collages for Instagram using the hashtag #Altrincham10k – with the best ones set to feature on the @altrincham10k page.

Road closures

Trafford Council has announced that between 8am-11:30am a number of roads will be closed, including Ashley Road, Hale Road, Shay Lane, Ash Lane, Clay Lane, Thorley Lane Grove Lane, Moss Lane, Stamford New Road and Railway Street.

Entertainment

The day will kick-off at 7.30am with many of the town’s coffee shops and cafes opening early with offers for the runners. Expect a wide array of children’s craft activities taking place in Goose Green and George Street between 11am-2pm. Look out for street performers in the square, who will also be popping up in several locations including at the bottom of Shaws Road and the Stamford Quarter.

Live music in King’s Court will be taking place from noon til 8pm

Later on, King’s Court will be hosting a number of live musicians and artists including the likes of Jack Hyphen, Mike Fordaze, and Harriet Dagnall. Meanwhile, Pure Gym is holding a free burn class in Stamford Square at 11.30am and Stamford Cycle Co will have a vinyl DJ spinning records until 2pm.
