The planned Metrolink industrial action this Sunday – which had threatened to disrupt the Manchester Marathon – is OFF.
Transport for Greater Manchester said this morning they were “pleased” they were now able to operate a normal Sunday service.
Around six miles of this year’s route is located in Altrincham and Timperley, with the race starting on Chester Road close to Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium.
Tens of thousands of runners and spectators are expected on the day, but the Unite union had said earlier this week that it was going ahead with a strike after Metrolink drivers rejected an offer of a minimum 5% pay rise over two years.
But to the relief of runners and spectators, the planned action is now off the table – although Metrolink are still telling people to expect services to be much busier than normal.
