Two local entrepreneurs have teamed up to put on a special night of “shameless joy” on the dance floor.
Let Go Disco Club, to be held at the Bowdon Rooms on Friday 6th May (9-11.30pm), is the brainchild of Lucy McElhinney – owner of The Music Place music school – and Emily Dixon, co-founder of Fig + Sparrow coffee shop in the Northern Quarter.
They say they came up with the idea during a chance dog walk in their local park, when they discovered a shared passion for dance.
But rather than ballet classes or salsa lessons, their dancing involves “the act of completely letting go to music and dancing freely”.
They believe dancing is a great way to alleviate stress, improve wellbeing and spread joy.
Open to all but particularly aimed towards parents, Lucy explained: “I just feel like we’re a forgotten tribe, like there’s not much on offer to fit with these parenting years… we’re busy and give so much of ourselves in this stage of life and we deserve a space and time carved out for ourselves, just to let go.”
Let Go Disco Club promises a “gathering of good folk and a night of great music and shameless joy”. Local DJ Morgan Pugh from Stutter and Twitch will be spinning 80s and 90s classics and more.
