There’s a busy festive programme of entertainment and events coming up in Altrincham this Christmas.
The seasonal celebrations will get underway on Thursday 17th November with an ‘Altrincham Welcomes Christmas’ event.
The Christmas lights across town will come on for the first time as the Garrick Show Choir sings at the Christmas tree at the bottom of Shaw’s Road, with Happy Radio DJ Darren Proctor hosting proceedings from around 5pm.
Many of the town’s shops and businesses will be opening late with activities including wreath-making, festive films, supper clubs and seasonal food and drink.
‘Altrincham Welcomes Christmas’ has been organised by Altrincham BID, which is funded by the businesses of Altrincham, with additional sponsorship from Altrincham Football Club, Fixx Salons, Gran T’s Coffee House and One Central Christmas Tipis.
Saturday 19th November will see the return of the town’s magical Lantern Parade.
From midday, local schools’ and community choirs will take to the stage in the Stamford Quarter’s ‘Not So Secret Grotto’ for a festive musical build-up.
The parade itself starts at 5pm from Goose Green and weaves throughout the town to The Stamford Quarter for a Christmas singalong with The Music Place at 5.45pm.
Large lantern puppets will be joined in the parade by local schoolchildren who have taken part in lantern workshops, members of the Altrincham Garrick Playhouse’s Dick Whittington cast, Altrincham Football Club and dancers from Cardwell Theatre School.
For those wishing to join the parade, there will be FREE lantern making workshops throughout the day at Inch Arts on Stamford New Road. Places at the workshops can be reserved on Eventbrite.co.uk.
Altrincham BID and Visit Altrincham are also working with Kids of Cheshire to produce Altrincham’s Santa’s Grotto Experience, a journey through a specially created winter wonderland to meet Santa Claus in his snow-topped igloo.
Visits to meet Santa can be booked on Eventbrite.co.uk over the weekends of Saturday 3rd/4th December and 10th/11th December.
The festivities continue with ‘Carols from King’s Court’ on Tuesday 13th December from 6pm, led by The Music Place, with festive food and drink from the King’s Court businesses. No booking required.
‘Carols from King’s Court’ is brought to you by Altrincham BID and the King’s Court businesses and is sponsored by Full Circle Funerals Partners.
Mandy White, Altrincham’s BID Manager, said: “Altrincham has so much to offer at Christmas with a programme of magical events.
“The town also has a fantastic selection of restaurants, bars and cafes making it the perfect place to celebrate with family and friends.
“With a huge variety of shops including high street favourites and independents, it is the perfect place to tick-off everything on your Christmas shopping list. We would encourage locals and visitors alike to come into Altrincham to celebrate and prepare for the festive season.”
