The Watersons Hale 10K is to return later this month after a successful inaugural race in 2022.

Organisers are expecting over 1,500 runners for the ‘closed road’ race on Sunday February 19th.

Last year’s winners Ross Millington, a former Olympian, and Sophie Wood have already confirmed their places with other competitors travelling to the event from as far as Edinburgh and Cornwall.

The route, designed by event founder and Hale resident Mark Durston, will take participants through Hale village and into the countryside to Ashley Hall, where the race will end.

A shorter 3K run will also be staged in the grounds of the magnificent country house, appealing to younger runners and those simply looking to enjoy a shorter distance.

The Watersons HALE 10k is once again supporting The Toy Appeal, a fantastic charity that provides sacks of toys to thousands of children living in poverty at Christmas. £2 of each entrance fee goes directly to the charity. Entrants looking to further support The Toy Appeal are encouraged to make a small donation when registering.

There is £1,500 in prize money up for grabs, with prizes awarded to the top three and winners of multiple male and female age categories.

All finishers will receive a bespoke commemorative race medal and D-Tag timing chips will record every participant’s individual race time.

Entries cost £23 for the 10K race and £10 for the 3K race – you can secure your place here.

Last year’s inaugural event was a huge success

Mark Durston, founder and managing director of Sensation Group, said: “With the Watersons HALE 10K we are bringing something new to the sports calendar with an inclusive, family friendly and yet challenging event.

“As a keen runner I have first-hand knowledge of the area and I believe it provides the perfect 10K route for the area, combined with a superb shorter 3K at Ashley Hall. The event is proving to be a fantastic family day out for the calendar.”

Peter Waterson, owner and managing director of Watersons independent estate agents, headline sponsor of the HALE 10K, said: “I am extremely proud that Watersons has served the people of Hale, Altrincham and the surrounding areas for over 20 years.

“Having lived in the village all my life and as a regular Altrincham & District Athletic Club runner I have wanted to be able to do something for my community and as such the HALE 10K was right up my street.

“We jumped at the chance to get involved for the first race and after its great success didn’t hesitate to continue our support as headline sponsor again for another year.”
