Sir Geoff Hurst, one of English football’s most iconic names, is coming to Altrincham.
The sporting legend remains the only player ever to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final – and, unlike Kylian Mbappé, actually go on to win.
Sir Geoff netted his trio in the game that remains the pinnacle of English football history, the 4-2 Wembley win over West Germany in the World Cup final in 1966.
Many years of hurt may have followed since, but Sir Geoff remains a footballing hero who spans the generations.
And he’ll be the star of an In Conversation with Sir Geoff Hurst event at The Bowdon Rooms on Thursday 16th March, with tickets starting from just £29.50.
Aside from his World Cup glory, Sir Geoff played almost 500 games for West Ham, scoring 248 goals, was named Player of the Year three times, won the FA Cup in 1964 and the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1965.
He also had spells in America and Kuwait and was assistant to England manager Ron Greenwood between 1977 and 1982 and was himself the manager of Chelsea for two years, too.
But it’s for that iconic moment in 1966 – so memorably soundtracked by Kenneth Wolstenholm’s immortal line “They think its all over — it is now” – that the 81-year-old is known the world over.
A moment that has since been deemed by the BBC to be most-shown piece of sporting TV footage ever.
His Bowdon Rooms date will see Sir Geoff retrace the most memorable moments of an unforgettable career.
