Recardo Patrick, the lead singer of 70s band Sweet Sensation who had a number one smash hit with Sad Sweet Dreamer, is to open a new coffee bar and nightclub in Hale village.
Patrick, who has also performed with the likes of Prince, Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson and counts Bill Clinton and Paris Hilton as personal friends, is to open Recardo’s in the Ashley Road space formerly occupied by Formosa and Surburbia.
He says the new concept opening will be the region’s first floral coffee bar and patisserie by day, before transforming into a “high-end club” by night, featuring line-ups of live performers and DJs playing 70s, 80s and 90s classics.
The two-floor venue has had a complete refit in preparation for its public opening next Friday.
The botanical-themed coffee bar, adorned in foliage from floor to ceiling, will be open from 8am seven days a week. It will offer, coffee, tea, sandwiches and cakes.
Come the evening, Recardo’s will transform into a “late-night drinking and dancing emporium”.
Every Friday and Saturday, party goers will be “nostalgically transported back to the days of Studio 54”, with the venue having capacity for 200 people.
Recardo Patrick is best known as the lead singer of Sweet Sensation, who enjoed a nu,ber one single with Sad Sweet Dreamer.
He’s also renowned for his legendary ‘Boogie in Wonderland’ night at Heart Ibiza, featuring Cirque Du Soleil, and is currently recording a new album in Vienna.
Marvin Hayes, former events manager at Mere Golf Resort and Spa, has been brought in as general manager at Recardo’s.
Patrick said: “I’m so excited to launch this extra special venue which will be the ultimate late-night dancing destination for the region.
“I wanted Recardo’s to be a fun clubbing concept where people come for the experience, not just the headliners, and we will certainly achieve that.
“You won’t get anywhere prettier to sit during the day than the upstairs floral cafe, and as the lights go down, Recardo’s will really come alive. We’ll only ever play the best in 70s, 80s and 90s classics filling our dance floor with those who love a good boogie!”
The new venue is hoping to introduce salsa and jazz events on Thursday nights.
Ahead of the official opening, there will be an invitation-only launch event on Thursday 21st October to feature Patrick himself and disco DJ Lionel Vinyl.
