Asian fusion restaurant Balchão has announced its permanent closure "with heavy hearts".
The news deals another blow to Hale Barns, coming just days after Booths' decision to move out of the village after nine years, with Asda moving in.
Balchão - named after a Goan spicy prawn dish - originally opened in the 4,000 sq ft unit in March 2022.
It promised an “exciting menu” with a kitchen team who were “specialists in a range of cooking techniques”.
But locals had noticed it had been closed in recent days, and its permanent demise was confirmed by the Balchão team.
A statement on the restaurant doors reads: "Farewell, Beloved Patrons: Balchao Restaurant Closes. With heavy hearts, we announce Balchao's permanent closure.
"Your loyalty and cherished memories hold a special place in our story.
"Unforeseen circumstances necessitate this closure, but we remain deepy grateful for every shared meal, celebration, and moment within these walls.
"Though our culinary journey ends, the flavours, laughter, and friendships will forever linger. Thank you for being part of our family. Farewell with immense gratitude."
Balchão had received rave reviews for its food but Hale Barns Square has proved a challenge for restaurateurs since its relaunch, with Mediterranean concept Fox and Barns Bar & Grill both also failing.
