St Ambrose College has suspended two members of staff following allegations they knew about the activities that led to former teacher Alan Morris being jailed for nine years earlier this year.
Both long-serving teachers, who hold senior positions at the Hale Barns school, were suspended at the end of September and their roles have been covered by supply teachers.
A spokesperson for the College said: “Following allegations from a former pupil that two members of staff may have been aware of Alan Morris’s activities, on the advice of the police and local authority the school has suspended those two members of staff pending an independent inquiry.”
It is not known when or if the teachers will be returning to the school.
Former senior master and deacon Morris, 64, was jailed for nine years in August after being found guilty of 16 counts of indecent assault and three of inciting gross indecency with a child. A further 28 offences involving 18 boys were ordered to lie on file.
The offences related to 10 boys between 1973 and 1990.
Sentencing him at Minshull Street Crown Court, Judge Timothy Mort told him: “It was clear you administered corporal punishment regularly and enthusiastically.
“You described your philosophy that education was the only way forward for those less privileged to advance in life.
“One can sympathise that discipline is important but against that philosophy you regularly administered punishment. It then became clear that you had an unhealthy interest in pupils’ bottoms.
“Mostly, the devout Catholic parents felt staff could do no wrong. It was a shocking abuse of trust and incredibly arrogant behaviour.”
