Victory for local residents as Wellington School withdraws floodlights plan

Wellington School has abandoned its latest attempt to install floodlights on a sports pitch.

Wellington School has abandoned its latest attempt to install floodlights on a sports pitch.

Trafford Council has confirmed that the Timperley school has formally withdrawn its application regarding its plans for eight, 14-metre lighting columns.

We’d reported last month how local residents had opposed the application and accused the school of being a “very poor neighbour”.

The school had already failed twice in its bid to secure permission for the floodlighting – a first attempt was unanimously rejected by Trafford Planning Committee in October 2010, with a subsequent appeal turned down in June 2011.

Speaking on behalf of the local residents, Richard Stasyszyn said: “Of course we’re pleased that the planning application has been withdrawn and we’ll see what happens from now on.

“What I’d say to the school is that if they did want to do anything in the future that would affect the neighbours, perhaps they could meet with the neighbours and discuss what they were thinking of doing before putting in the application.”
