Altrincham has two of the five richest villages in the country, according to new research.
New data compiled by property group Savills shows that over the past two years, there were 27 £1million-plus houses sold in Bowdon and a further 27 sold in Hale.
That makes Bowdon and Hale the fourth and fifth most expensive villages in the country.
East Horsley, in Surrey, topped the chart with 42 sales, followed by Chorleywood in Hertfordshire and Knotty Green in Buckinghamshire. Alderley Edge was seventh.
Andrew Thorpe, associate director at Savills’ Wilmslow office, said: “Bowdon and Hale now have some of the most expensive houses outside of London. The big thing about Altrincham generally is that it’s amenities-driven. It’s got some of the best private and state schools in the area, plus it’s so close to the city centre and major transport links.
“I was speaking to someone the other day who has recently relocated from Cambridge to Hale. When I asked why, he simply said ‘the schools’. He knew he was paying a premium for the house but he wanted the schooling – it was as simple as that.”
