The Post Office says it will double opening hours at its Timperley Station branch if a proposed move to the Spar store on Park Road goes ahead.
It has begun a six-week consultation period on the move and has invited residents to give their views on the matter by April 21st.
But in what is bound to be a popular move for full-time workers and others frustrated by long queues and inconvenient opening hours, the Post Office says the new location will change to one of its new “local style” branches.
That will mean opening hours would be extended to 7:30am till 10pm, seven days a week, with services offered from a till on the retail counter.

Currently, the Timperley Station post office is open for eight hours a day, with an hour’s break for lunch, but is closed all day Sunday and on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons.
The only services that would not be transferring to the new location would be transcash bill payments, NS&I Premium Savings Bonds, on demand travel insurance and payment by cheque. These services are however all available at the Post Office in Timperley village.
Post Office regional manager, Adrian Wales, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Timperley and we are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the community and secure services for the future.”
This change is part of a “major programme of modernisation and investment” across the Post Office network, which will see up to 8,000 branches modernised and additional investment in over 3,000 branches.
The investment will also see the Post Office build a permanent ramp at the new Spar location, as well as incorporating a hearing loop and space for a wheelchair in the plans.

If it goes ahead, the move will take place in June/July with the current property at 100 Park Road vacated.
