Volunteers are being sought for a community gardening day at Altrincham Interchange.
Friends of Altrincham Interchange are recruiting volunteers to help add some “finishing touches” to the station area, which was reopened in December after a £19m redevelopment.
Of particular focus is a currently neglected patch of land – below – that the organisation hopes to turn into an attractive display.
The day takes place on Friday March 20th, and volunteers will be joined by representatives from Mid Cheshire Community Rail Partnership, Northern Rail, Network Rail and local businesses. TfGM will also be represented and have funded some of the planting.
The group will spend the day collecting litter, clearing the ground and digging over the land ready for planting.
No gardening expertise is required but residents are asked to wear old clothes, stout footwear or wellies and come along with gloves and gardening tools. The day will start at 10am with a safety briefing and refreshments will be provided.
Councillor Michael Hyman, Altrincham Forward Board member and Executive Member for Economic Growth and Planning, said: “The new Interchange is a great asset for Altrincham, and we are delighted to see the local community supporting it
and giving up their time to improve the station environment even further.
“The newly cleared and planted area will no doubt look very attractive once finished, and further enhance the experience for visitors and commuters arriving into Altrincham.”
