There’s just a week left to have your say on how Altrincham should be improved over the next 15 years.
The Draft Neighbourhood Business Plan is based on the findings from 1,400 questionnaires completed late last year – you can read the most popular results here.
And now, as part of the second phase of the consultation, residents and businesses can give their thoughts on the plan using the online questionnaire on the MyAltrincham website.
Proposals include:
- The adoption of objectives which include ‘building on the success of Altrincham Market’, helping to ‘seeking to attract more independent retailers’ and ‘promoting the town centre as a social centre’
- Land allocations – i.e. setting out a number of areas and suggesting the type of activity they should be used for
- The addition of more facilities and services aimed at younger people and provision of digital technology in the town centre
- Various issues to do with car parking
- Whether any new retail development should be confined to main shopping and mixed use / active frontages only
Over 200 people have given their views so far – but organisers hope many more will take the chance before the closing date of midnight on Monday March 23rd.
The plan will define the various uses to which land can be allocated and will influence the policies that will determine the size and design of future buildings and spaces. It will also guide where private and public sector investment takes place.
It’s been put together by a group of over 90 community volunteers known as the Altrincham Business Neighbourhood Forum, the group formally designated by Trafford Council to undertake the task.
After the different stages of the consultation process, residents and businesses will be given the opportunity to vote for or against the plan. If they vote for it, Trafford Council must adopt the plan and use it as the basis for all their town centre planning decisions from 2015 up until 2030.

Tony Collier, chair of the Forum, said: “Thank you to everyone who has responded and given us their views so far. This plan really does belong to the people and businesses of Altrincham. It is their town and that is why it is so important we get their views on the draft plan so far.
“We know that filling in this questionnaire involves looking at the draft plan and then five minutes of time filling it in but it looks at some crucial issues for the town and seeks to address issues that we regularly hear brought up in other forums.”
