Shoppers today got a first look at Booths’ much-anticipated new store in Hale Barns after it was officially opened by 103-year-old local Lillian Barrow.
Lillian, who lives 200 yards from the new store at the Sunrise Senior Living complex, was the star attraction as a crowd eagerly awaited the cutting of the tape at 10am.

Chairman Booth welcomed Lillian with a bouquet of flowers and a bar of dark chocolate – in recognition of Lillian’s claim that her longevity was down to “dark chocolate and determination”.
Booth said: “I’m delighted to open Booths in Hale Barns. Booths is a food retailer like no other—proudly Northern, family run and independent. We take pride in our close links to our farmers and producers as well as the communities in which we trade.
“Booths works hard to develop strong and meaningful relationships with artisan suppliers both locally and globally. Retailing exceptional food and drink is the essence of Booths, and coupled with great knowledge and service, is what sets Booths apart from the crowd and marks us as special.”

The store, which is the bedrock of the new Hale Barns Square development, has created 90 jobs in the area.
Local suppliers to be sold in the new store are Cheshire Farm Chips, Burt’s Cheese, Tatton Brewery, Cheshire Farm Ice Cream, Hayman’s Gin, H Forman and Sons, Osem UK, Roots Vegetable Crisps, Huntapac Produce Ltd, local beetroot grower H & P Ascroft, Boutinot Wines, Dunbia, Neve Fleetwood seafood, Spanish Passion and Heler Cheese.
As well as a café and fresh food counters, there is a butcher, fishmonger, delicatessen, hot food and cheesemonger, alongside a “new approach” to showcasing wine, beer and spirits.
Opening hours will be 8am-10pm Monday to Saturday, and 9.30am to 4pm on a Sunday (with the first half-hour browsing-only).
