A video of a flash mob involving sixth formers from an Altrincham school has gone viral.

The four-and-a-half minute video was recorded in the canteen at Loreto Grammar School on Dunham Road on Friday, the last official day of lessons for many before they sit their A Level exams.

It shows dozens of schoolgirls enthusiastically taking part in the rendition of Stick to the Status Quo, from High School Musical, with teachers watching on from the sidelines. Many pupils from other years are also in attendance.

The video has been viewed over 80,000 times in little over a day since it was published on Facebook.

Sixth former Sophie Chatterton, who took part in the flash mob, said the leavers had wanted to do something memorable and set up a Facebook page to come up with ideas.

“We came up with Stick to the Status Quo and everyone agreed on it straight away,” she said. “We particularly wanted to do it in the canteen as that’s where the song is sung in the film. We had a few practice runs and then just did it.”

Sophie, 18, said that several of the girls who took part are theatre studies students.

She added: “The reaction since we did it has been amazing.”
