The Old Post Rooms, Altrincham’s new independent business hub and vintage tearoom, is set to open on June 27th – and it’s not too late to become a part of it.

Refurbishment work on the 4,700 sq ft site on Stamford New Road – the former home of Altrincham’s historic Post Office building – is currently taking place after Trafford Council gave the green light in January.

And after signing up 13 tenants, owner Catherine Matthews has made a further two units available for tenancy. Both units can be leased at £20 per day inclusive on a seven-day-a-week basis.

Knutsford-based maternity wear boutique The Pudding Club has taken space, as has luxury sleepwear and lingerie company Silk Drawer and former Emporium tenants Little House Interiors, Plum and Pigeon, Steve Entwistle Photography and The Odd Glass.

Also leasing space are ladies boutique Madam Butterfly, a vintage childrenswear shop and a silver jewellery/vintage gifts retailer.

Matthews had targeted a late May opening but the refurbishment of the site has been delayed because the glass for the shop front was cut too small. The newly cut glass is so large it will have to be installed using a crane in the early hours of the morning.

Electrics work is currently being finalised and the tearoom kitchen is being delivered next week. An alcohol licence has also been granted. A chef has been appointed this week and “most” of the other staff have now been hired.

A total of 24 chandeliers have already been installed, and Matthews said the main exterior sign will “blow people away”.

Matthews said there had been a huge amount of interest in the units, but that she had turned away a number of prospective tenants to ensure the quality was very high.

She said: “I’m hugely excited about the opening although I am sure there will be a few more sleepless nights before it opens! It will be quite a surprise for people I think.”
