Record-breaking cricketer James Anderson led the list of local names on the Queen’s birthday honours list.
The 32-year-old Bowdon resident picked up an OBE for services to cricket after a year in which he has become England’s all-time leading wicket-taker, overtaking Sir Ian Botham.
Burnley-born Anderson said: “This means an enormous amount to me and my family. I’m very proud of my recent achievements and this just caps it off.
“These achievements wouldn’t have been possible without the help and support of my family, friends and everyone at Burnley CC, Lancs CCC and England.”
Also handed an OBE was Mark Adlestone, the chairman of jewellers Beaverbrooks, who is listed as living in Altrincham.

The award reflects both his business success but also his philanthropic efforts, with Beaverbrooks having donated more than £9 million to charities since 2000.
He said: “I have long felt that the world of business should work hand in hand with the worlds of philanthropy, values, ethics and community. As a business, we embrace this philosophy and I am thrilled that this honour celebrates this fact.”
Another Altrincham name on the list is Dr Laura Cohen, a scientist who spent 14 years at AstraZeneca before becoming the chief executive of the British Ceramic Confederation. She’s awarded an MBE for services to the ceramics industry.

Further afield, Janet Guest is awarded an MBE for her work helping victims of honour crimes, female genital mutilation and sexual exploitation at Wythenshawe Hospital.
She said: “I am incredibly honoured to be receiving this award. To receive such a high accolade for something I feel so passionate about is very humbling and I would like to thank everyone who has supported me in raising awareness of these incredibly important issues.”
Sandy Lindsay from Sale, the chair of Tangerine PR, receives an MBE for services to business and young people, and Dr Marie Balshaw, director of Whitworth Art Gallery, is handed a CBE.
