Police are looking for a man in his 20s who was seen riding a bike through Timperley with a PARROT on his handle bars last night.

Officers received a call in the early hours of this morning after local residents witnessed the extraordinary sight on Grove Lane.

After attending the scene, police discovered the man had broken into Timperley Aquatics on Stockport Road, smashed the glass to the aviary with a wheelie bin and stolen a Green-winged Macaw.

The offender had thrown an empty lizard terrarium through the six foot by four foot glass aviary and snatched the eight-year-old bird before riding off.

The female parrot, called Charlie, is well-known to visitors of the pet shop, and is known by the nickname ‘Baby’ for its habit of saying “hello baby” at customers. It is worth £2,000.

The male is described as white, in his early 20s, of slim build, wearing dark clothing and with short hair.

As a Facebook update from Greater Manchester Police‘s Trafford South division clarified, “no he wasn’t wearing an eye patch or saying aaarrrr shiver me timbers”…

Anyone with information on the stolen bird should call the police on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
