Police are hunting for three men who carried out an armed robbery on the Co-op in Bowdon last night, leaving staff “terrified”.

Three men wearing balaclavas walked into the Vicarage Lane store at 9.50pm on Wednesday August 5th, threatening staff with a knife and hammer before demanding money and cigarettes. All three ran out with a quantity of both.

The man carrying a knife is described as being white, 6ft 3in tall, slim to medium build and wore a dark coloured hooded top.

The man with the hammer was white, 5ft 6in tall, of slim build and wore a parka jacket.

The third man was white, 5ft 8in tall, of muscular build and wore a hooded top.

Detective Constable Sonia Johnston said: “The staff members were left terrified and are struggling to come to terms with what happened. No one should have to go through such an ordeal when you are in the safety of a work environment and I would ask anyone who witnessed the robbery to call us.”
