As well as recognition for the town as whole, there were also individual awards for the Stamford Quarter Shopping Centre, The Old Roebuck Pub and The Wheatsheaf Pub, while local charity ‘Art With A Heart’ was given a ‘Highly Commended’ Discretionary Award for its contribution to enhancing the town’s built environment.

Walmsley, who announced that the theme for the year ahead would be ‘Best of British’, said: “We are incredibly proud of who and what we are in Altrincham – a British market town. The cohesion in our community between businesses, residents and voluntary groups has been recognised at a regional level and this year’s theme is designed to draw us even closer.

“‘Best Of British’ is not going to be just about our planters, window displays and decorations. It’s a town-wide theme for 2016, an opportunity for businesses and community groups to plug themselves in and offer promotions, activities and events which help to create a cheerful, positive buzz around the town, all year round.

“We have so much to celebrate from wonderful British products, designers, authors, artists, musicians and manufacturers to traditional heritage days. We hope that with cross-promotion offered by ourselves, Altrincham Forward and hopefully in time a new Altrincham BID company, our businesses and community groups will find is easier than ever before to make a contribution and celebrate all that is British.”
