A Bowdon cafe is hosting an open day on Saturday as it launches on weekends for the first time.
Coffee & Kitchen Bowdon, on Vicarage Lane, was opened back in July by local couple Fraser and Katrina Higson.
Up until now it has only been open from Monday to Friday, but Fraser said the time was now right to move to a seven-day operation.
He said: “The intention was always to open seven days a week but we wanted get it right during the week first. We’ve had so many people ask if we will and now feels like the right time.”
There will be a range of family-friendly activities on Saturday, including Meet the Minion, face-painting and the opportunity for kids to design their own Cake Pops, supplied by local company Lizzie Loves Cakes.
The winners of the Decorate a Pumpkin competition – which has attracted dozens of entries from local children – will also be announced.
The event will also raise money for Leuka, a charity supporting research into Leukaemia, inspired by a local four-year-old boy’s fight against the disease.
And while a limited menu will be on offer on Saturday – sausage and bacon barms, soup, cakes and coffee – a big board will let visitors suggest brunch menu ideas for future weekends.
The cafe will be open from 9.30am to 3pm on Saturdays and 9.30am to 2pm on Sundays.
Fraser said the local community had been “really supportive” of the new venture.
“Like anything you have a few things you don’t get right, but we’ve adjusted the menu based on what people have said. We’ve got a new chef (Ben Limb) who’s proving to be really popular.
“We’re getting a lot of regulars now but it’s always lovely to see new faces and hopefully opening at weekends will mean we can do that.”
Next week, on Wednesday and Thursday, the cafe is hosting two pop-up evening banquets after a highly successful first event last month. Tickets for the Italian-themed events cost £25 per head, and it’s bring your own alcohol.
