Plans to build 62 homes on the site of the derelict former Bayer industrial complex in Timperley have been approved by Trafford Council.
The three-and-a-half acre site on Manchester Road has become a true eyesore in recent years and a regular target for vandalism and arson attacks.
But after a planning application was unanimously approved by the council, the site is to be transformed into a brand new development consisting of 33 houses and 29 apartments: 20 three-bed, 11 four-bed and two five-bed houses, with a further 12 one-bed and 17 two-bed apartments.
The plans were jointly submitted by land owner Popecrown Ltd and Laurus Homes, a new developer launched in September by Trafford Housing Trust (THT), the Sale-based housing association. All of Laurus’s profits will go straight back to the trust.
In its design and access statement regarding the development, THT said it would “seek to create a high quality place which builds on the character of the surrounding neighbourhood”.
Access to the development will be via Etchells Road and will require the creation of a new bridge over Timperley Brook.
Prior to the meeting, the Council had recommended that planning permission was granted as the development “will provide significant benefits in terms of economic regeneration, employment creation and provision of housing”.
