Traffic police who stopped a car that had been travelling at 122mph near Manchester Airport last night were astonished to discover a baby and toddler in the back.
The Volkswagen was travelling on a wet, unlit stretch of the M56 near the airport when it was clocked by officers. It was pulled over on the A556 link road at 12.45am.
The children in the back were aged just 20 months and six months.
The driver has now been summonsed to court for speeding, driving without due care and attention and driving without insurance.
PC Rob Hughes, of the Road Policing Unit, said: “I was appalled that anyone would drive at these speeds on an unlit section of motorway on a wet road surface. I have never seen such a blatant disregard for the safety of the children.”
