Thirty-four local residents volunteered for a “Big Tidy Up” in Altrincham yesterday, with a total of 119 bags of rubbish cleared.
Items collected included a parasol, a wheelbarrow full of cement and a full bucket of broken glass.
Organiser Sarah Walmsley, from Our Altrincham, said: “Considering this is the first of six litter picks scheduled for 2016, the response from volunteers has been tremendous. Local businesses have also supported us as they realise a clean town attracts more visitors, more shopping and an improved environment for everyone!”

Walmsley also criticised Amey’s work in addressing the known problem area of Central Way.
The company took over responsibility for cleaning last year as part of a joint venture agreement with Trafford.
She added: “I am in shock at how much litter was collected. Which says a lot about how Trafford Council’s joint venture with Amey Plc is going… very badly!”
Our Altrincham is organising another litter pick on March 5th – to join in, visit its website here.
