Home furnishings retailer Dunelm has pushed the opening of its new Altrincham store back to November.
The company, whose nearest outlets to Altrincham are currently at the Trafford Centre, as well as Stockport and Warrington, is planning to open a 20,300 sq ft superstore in one of the vacant units next to Halfords on the Bridgewater Retail Park.
An opening date had been earmarked for the spring, but the company told us today it would “more than likely” be November, but weren’t able to give the reason for the delay.
It added that there was no question of the store not opening, and that it would definitely be open in time for Christmas. Details about job opportunities at the new store – which are likely to total over 50 – would be forthcoming nearer the time.
Fast-growing Dunelm, previously known as Dunelm Mill before a £3m rebrand two years ago, currently has currently has 151 superstores and is looking to open 200 across the UK.
Shares in the company slipped 5% recently after it revealed its like-for-like sales had dipped 0.8% in the 13 weeks to January 2, compared with the same period last year.
Chief executive John Browett blamed the “unseasonably warm weather” for the results.
Dunelm has a range of 20,000 home furnishing products from bedding to furniture, including made-to-measure curtains, blinds and accessories, as well as a click and collect service.
