Two members of Hale Karate Club have been selected to represent England at Karate in both Kata and Kumite.
Alex Cockx and Kay Prachunla, both aged 16, have trained at the club since it opened in 2012 and both achieved black belt last year.
“To be selected for England in both disciplines is a fantastic achievement,” said their Sensei, Martin Cockx, “and it just goes to show what hard work and dedication produces.”
Kay, of Sale High School, and Altrincham Grammar School’s Alex both train and teach four or five times a week.

Hale Karate Club trains every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at The Grammar in Bowdon. Children are welcome from as young as four years of age and there is also a thriving adult contingent as well as a large number of teenagers, many of whom will be trying for their black belts later this year.
Martin added: “Competition in Karate is very important, but it is not the only consideration. Of equal importance is the overall physical and mental development that regular training in Karate brings to students of whatever age.”
