The Orange Tree, one of the most historic pubs in Altrincham, is to reopen later this month after a three-month closure.
Brothers Adam and Anthony Greaves are to relaunch the 17th-century pub on Friday February 26th after taking on the tenancy from owner Enterprise Inns.
The pub has had a chequered recent past, despite a major refurbishment and relaunch in October 2014. Two sets of tenants were unable to attract enough custom to the Old Market Place venue before it closed in December, and a subsequent bid to reopen it before Christmas fell through.
The brothers, however, will be relaunching the pub as a traditional boozer showing live sports coverage – previously the pub had no televisions.
They also plan to open a separate Manhattan-style cocktail bar venue, accessible through a separate door at the side, and will even test a food offer.
Stockport-born Anthony, 28, blamed the recent failures on “poor management”, and asked Altrincham residents to give it another chance.
“We’re putting everything into it,” he said. “We’re all moving in above the pub – me, my brother and his partner Lisa.
“We’ll keep it as a traditional pub and a really comfortable, welcoming place, and it won’t be overpowered by live sports coverage at all.
“We plan to go for top quality on everything – the beer, for instance, is going to be immaculate.”
The relaunch night on February 26th will feature a live band – Horizon Falls – and they’ve even hired a burrito van serving free food all night.
The latest version of the Orange Tree will open at 12 noon every day and close at midnight on weekdays, potentially later at the weekend.
“People don’t forget a pub but they should come in and try us,” he added. “I’m confident it won’t be the only time you come in. It will be different from what it was before and everyone is welcome.”
