A planning application to turn a former YWCA building on Ashley Road into 41 luxury apartments has been submitted by Real Estate Investment Partnerships.
Alexandra House, which has become increasingly decrepit in recent years, would be demolished as part of the plans and replaced by the high-spec residential building, designed by architects Ollier Smurthwaite.
Sizes of the apartments would range from 430 sq ft for a one-bed townhouse to a “spectacular” 1,289 sq ft three-bed triplex penthouse. The overall development value of the five-storey development is £19.6m.
Steve Slater, of Real Estate Investment Partnerships, said: “We are very excited to start work on this development. The site has great potential and our architects have designed a high quality residential development that is in keeping with the surrounding area.
“We want to create a truly amazing place to live that will be a worthy of its place in what is a stunning high profile location.”
Eighty parking spaces are included in the application, the majority of which would be located in the basement of the development.
Trowers & Hamlins LLP were the legal advisers to the vendor, with Irwin Mitchell acting for the purchaser.
Last July, the developer held a consultation evening at Altrincham Town Hall regarding its plans – Alexandra House lies at the heart of The Downs Conservation Area.
Should permission be granted for the application, the construction work is expected to take 12 months.
