Sports fashion retailer JD Sports is to open a store in Altrincham town centre.
The Bury-headquartered company is to open in the Stamford Quarter in the double unit between Wilko and Debenhams.
The opening – scheduled for next month – is part of an ambitious expansion plan by the retailer, which recently revealed a 45% jump in annual profits, largely thanks to a surge in demand for women’s sports clothing.
Total sales were up 20% year on year to £1.82bn in the 12 months to February 2016, with pre-tax profit up to £131.6m.
JD Sports’ parent group also owns Millets, so has recent experience of trading on George Street (Millets’ Altrincham store closed down a couple of years ago).
Stamford Quarter Centre manager David Wightman said: “We are incredibly pleased that JD are joining Stamford Quarter. This exciting new opening continues to build on the fantastic range of stores and fashion choice and we believe it will be a popular store for shoppers of Altrincham.
“JD have spent the last 35 years establishing themselves as market leaders and our shoppers will be able to browse and buy limited edition and exclusive designs from such well known brands as Adidas Originals and Nike.”
Wightman said “more exciting developments” were planned for the Stamford Quarter later in the year.
There are currently has 103 JD Sports stories across the UK and mainland Europe.
