It looks as if Hale residents are going to have to wait for Marks & Spencer’s arrival in the village.
The British retail giant has confirmed it will be opening a food hall in the Ashley Road unit previously occupied by The Co-operative.
But despite the Co-op vacating the plum site in March, Marks & Spencer don’t plan to open the new store for several months yet.
An M&S spokesperson told us: “We are excited that the M&S Foodhall in Hale will be opening towards the end of the year.
“We look forward to bringing the very best of M&S food to Hale, and will update the local community with further details of the new Foodhall nearer the time.”
We understand that all 24 of the Co-op’s Hale-based staff were offered roles by M&S, but it’s not clear what they are doing in the interim.
