Timperley Villa take home Respect and Fair Play prize at Cheshire FA awards

Local football team Timperley Villa picked up two prestigious awards in the end-of-season Cheshire FA Awards.

Local football team Timperley Villa picked up two prestigious awards in the end-of-season Cheshire FA Awards.

The awards look to recognise the efforts of over 700 clubs, 3,500 teams, 1,100 referees and 4,000 volunteers each week through the league.

And Timperley triumphed in the big award of the night, the Respect & Fair Play Club Award.

Retiring chairwoman Sheila Saddington also took home the Cheshire FA Welfare Officer Award, while secretary Andy Gorman was runner-up in the Administrator Award category.

The event was held at the Carden Park Hotel and hosted by Garry Richardson, of BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 5 live.

Chairman Steve Sadler said: “It was a fantastic night and to be rewarded in these three categories says so much about the club.

“We place a huge emphasis at Timperley Villa on the development, safety and enjoyment of the boys and girls who play for us, respect for opponents, referees, parents and team mates is paramount so to win the Fair Play & Respect award is particularly gratifying.

“After 10 years as chair, to see Sheila Saddington pick up an award was a fitting end to her time with the club and although Andy Gorman didn’t come away with the top prize, the fact he was nominated is testimony to the hours of unglamorous work he does to help make sure the club is run as well as it is.”
