The Salvation Army has opened a charity shop in Altrincham town centre.

The doors were officially opened to the George Street store yesterday by the charity’s Divisional Commander, Major Alan Watters.

The Salvation Army raises money to help vulnerable people in communities across the UK.

Major Alan Watters, Divisional Commander for Central North at The Salvation Army, said: “It was wonderful to officially open the new Salvation Army charity shop in Altrincham. We’re delighted that the new shop will give us greater opportunities to engage with the community and look forward to hearing of its success.”

Area manager Ann Penny added: “We had a fantastic welcome from the local community at the opening. The shop was busy all day – I think it’ll quickly establish itself as a favourite in Altrincham.

“We’re on the look-out for volunteers and I’d like to encourage anybody who’s interested to pop in and have a chat about what’s involved. We rely on the generosity of our volunteers – if you think you can spare any time at all, from a few hours to a few days a week, you will be helping to make a huge difference.”
