The owner of a new interiors shop in Altrincham says she hopes it brings “something new” to the town.

Gemma Wane, together with husband Joseph, have opened Homebird on Stamford New Road.

It’s the third Homebird in the area – there are also stores in Wilmslow and Cheadle Hulme – but the first that she and her husband have been involved in. They have invested in a company originally set up by two sisters, then known as Houseshop.

Describing it as a “lifestyle boutique”, the shop – part of the stunning Stamford House building – sells furniture, gifts, candles, birthday cards, jewellery and much more.

Since opening last month, Wane says the reception from the town has been very positive.

“We’ve found it really good so far – everyone says how nice the shop is and how happy they are that this kind of shop is in Altrincham. There isn’t really anything else that competes directly. We hope it’s something new – we’ve not taking anyone else’s business. It’s just something different in Altrincham.”

She added: “Five years ago Altrincham was really down in the dumps, but with all the money that the council has put in, it’s really on the up.”
