Hundreds complain of “booming” late-night music in Altrincham area

Hundreds of people have complained of a disturbed night after several hours of “booming” loud music were reported in the Altrincham area last night.

Hundreds of people have complained of a disturbed night after several hours of “booming” loud music were reported in the Altrincham area last night.

Residents in Altrincham, Hale, Bowdon, Broadheath and Timperley – and as far afield as Sale and Brooklands – all reported hearing the noise until as late as 2 or 3am.

It’s not yet clear where the noise emanated from, but there are suggestions the source could have been in the Hale or Hale Barns area.

One commenter on the Hale and Altrincham General Facebook group, Sara Ibbotson, said: “I’m in Timperley near navi and it is driving me crazy!!”

Another, Ashi Claire, said: “I was wondering what it was. I’m in timperley and is driving me insane.”

Rachy Wolf said it was “terribly loud”, adding “Its really loud and seems to be the same two records over and over … you can actually hear the lyrics …”

Residents then reported hearing several police sirens and a helicopter above the Altrincham area, before the music appears to have stopped around 2-3am.

Last weekend, police were called to an illegal countryside rave in Woodford on Stockport’s border with Cheshire, with up to 200 youngsters partying in a field until 6am.

And on Monday, residents within 10 miles of Lancashire County Cricket Club complained of the noise from a Rihanna concert, although the venue later said it was over shortly after 11pm.

There were no major concerts in Manchester last night, and the one main local event yesterday – Altrincham Festival – was all over by early evening.
