An 86-year-old woman beat off an attacker with a packet of BACON yesterday after being confronted in an Altrincham supermarket.
The pensioner had just withdrawn a large quantity of money from a cash machine before heading into the unnamed shop.
While she was shopping, the woman was challenged by an unknown female who grabbed her trolley and demanded the money she had withdrawn.
Police from GMP Trafford South reported that the 86-year-old defended herself by “repeatedly hitting the female offender over the head with a packet of bacon”.

The offender is said to have then retreated and left the supermarket.
Anyone with information about the incident should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
