Two Altrincham cafés have closed their doors in the space of a week.

Two Altrincham cafés have closed their doors in the space of a week.

Y McGregor on Stamford New Road, which styled itself as a healthy food and juice café, is to open for the last time tomorrow after deciding not to renew its 10-year lease.

All three full-time staff have managed to find alternative employment elsewhere.

Owner Jo McGregor told us she would be “taking some time out to recharge batteries” before deciding on her next move.

Describing the past decade as an “adventure,” she added: “It is difficult to be an independent in the centre of Altrincham, and let’s say the landlord was being very optimistic with his rent demands.

“But we’re closing without bitterness and looking forward not back, and hopefully people have enjoyed coming in over the years.”

Over in Hale, Café Gourmand has also shut this week.

The French-inspired café-cum-patisserie opened on Ashley Road in 2013.

The vacant unit has however been acquired by another café – Alderley Edge-based Village Café.

Village Café serves a full range of breakfasts, lunches, hot and cold drinks and snacks, but there’s no word yet as to an opening date.
