A Timperley school has said it is “extremely proud” of former pupil James Guy after the 20-year-old won a silver medal at the Olympic Games in Rio.
Guy was part of the Great Britain team that came second only to Michael Phelps’ USA in the Men’s 4 x 200m Freestyle Relay Final last night.
The medal adds to the two gold medals Guy won at the 2015 World Aquatic Championships in Russia, as well as a gold and a bronze at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. He’s also European and World Junior Champion in the 4 x 200m Freestyle Relay.
And the headmaster of his alma mater, the independent Forest Preparatory School, has paid tribute to their now famous alumni.
Rick Hyde said, “We are extremely proud of James and are delighted that his hard work in the pool from such a young age has led to this fantastic achievement.
“At Forest we take pride in all areas of PE and sport, striving to provide a platform from which our children can pursue existing talents, nurturing them and encouraging them to achieve their full potential.
“We wish James all the best for his future endeavours and hope that he will come back in to see us in school on his return from Rio to inspire our future Olympians!”
In February James, who received a scholarship from the prestigious Millfield School when he was 13, took time out to pay a visit to pupils at Forest (pictured above).
All children from Year 1 to Year 6 undertake swimming lessons at the school on a weekly basis.
