Sam Clarke, who was born with a genetic kidney disease and had a transplant in 2003 at the age of 11, won gold in petanque pairs, ten pin bowling singles, ten pin bowling pairs and team bronze in floorball hockey.

His best performance in Vantaa, Finland, probably came in winning silver in the discus with a personal best of 21m 44.

Sam, who trained at Altrincham Athletics Club in Timperley under coach John Snape up to five times a week despite having to take 13 medications a day, competed in the M2, 18-29 years category at the games.

He was able to compete in the championships thanks to financial support from Altrincham law firm McHale & Co, who were put in touch with the 23-year-old by local charity The Sport Community.

A team of 12 solicitors from McHale & Co ran the Manchester 10k and scaled the Three Peaks Challenge to help raise funds for Sam.
