Today is A Level Results Day, a hugely important day for pupils across Altrincham.
We’ll be bringing together results news from as many Altrincham schools as we can.
St Ambrose College
Nearly 69% of all grades were at A* to B, with a 100% pass rate and the vast majority of students now able to go up to their chosen university to study their preferred courses.
Ten of the top achievers are pictured below – they are (l to r):
- Josh Travers, 18, from Hazel Grove, who got an A* and two A grades and will now study History at Oxford.
- Matthew Sullivan, 18, from Warrington, got two A* s and two A grades and will study Chemical Engineering at Bath. Matthew hopes to work in nuclear technologies.
- Kristian Halarnyk-Peet, 18, from Baguley, got two A* and two A grades and will also read Chemical Engineering at Bath, but hoping to work in pharmaceutical research.
- James Tavernor, 18, from Knutsford, got two A*s and one A grade and is going up to Imperial College London to study Mathematics and Computing.
- Duncan Carter, 18, from Timperley another Maths team stalwart, got an A* and two A grades and will read Mathematics at Bath. He wants to become a Hedge Fund Manager.
- Felix McDermott, 18, from Cheadle Hulme, got three A grades and will study Chemistry at Bristol hoping to work in innovative drug trials.
- Dominic Howarth, 18, from Newton le Willows, got an A* and two A grades and will read Mathematics at Bath, hoping to work in the City.
- Joint Head Boy Dominic Butler, 18, from Bowdon, got a stunning four A*s and one A grade and wants to read Medicine at either Queen’s Belfast or the National University of Ireland in Galway.
- His identical twin Thomas got three A*s and two A grades, but says his one lower grade will not be a source of contention, and unsurprisingly has exactly the same ambitions to be a top doctor after studying in Ireland.
- Alexander Gordon, 18, from Hale Barns, got four A grades and will study Computer Science at Durham, aiming to become a ground breaking computer programmer.
St Ambrose College Principal James Keulemans said: “These exceptional results are not achieved by luck but very much by design with the hard work of pupils and teachers reaping rewards over many years of study. It’s been an absolute pleasure to work with these young men and we know they will go on to make significant contributions to our society.”
Altrincham Grammar School for Girls
Another fantastic year at Alty Grammar for Girls, with 58 achieving A* or A in all their subjects with 11 achieving A* grades across the board.
Principal Stephanie Gill said: “Once again these results demonstrate the hard work and determination of our students and the wonderful support they receive from our staff.
“I am incredibly proud of all of our students and delighted by their success. On behalf of all staff and governors, I wish them the very best for their future.”
Loreto Grammar School
Loreto Grammar School achieved a record-breaking set of results.
Over 76% of all grades were at A* to B, up from 74% last year, with the young academics now looking forward to studying challenging courses at leading universities across the full spectrum of disciplines.
Loreto Grammar School Headteacher Jane Beever said: “Loreto Grammar School goes from strength to strength with the girls able to meet our and their own high expectations through hard work and a sheer love of learning.
“All the staff feel it is a privilege to work such fine young women who also do so much outside of class and in the wider community to make their mark.”

Altrincham Grammar School for Boys
Head Master Mr Gartside said: “We are very pleased with the results as 23% entries were A* and 58% A*-A.
“This is our largest ever year group in Sixth Form and we are very pleased with their achievements. Almost all the students are heading off to the university of their choice.”
Wellington School
The Timperley school is celebrating an increase in the number of students achieving the very top grades, and every student who applied to university has gained a place.
Headteacher Stuart Beeley said: “Once again we are delighted to have seen so many smiling faces on results day. Our students should be as proud of their wonderful achievements as we are. It is just desserts for their hard work and dedication.”
“Collectively, students and staff have worked as a real team and we have also seen some truly wonderful individual performances.
“Everyone at Wellington School wishes our students all the very best of luck on the next step of their journey.”
Successful students include Jemma Crosby, who will read Chemistry at Durham after securing three A* grades, while Nathan Dean will read Medical Science at Edinburgh after notching two A*s and an A.
