HSBC to end long association with Hale by closing Ashley Road branch

HSBC has revealed it is to close its branch in Hale, a longstanding fixture of the village’s high street.

HSBC has revealed it is to close its branch in Hale, a longstanding fixture of the village’s high street.

The Ashley Road bank will shut for good on October 14th, meaning it will become one of over 100 branches to be closed by the company this year alone.

A spokesperson for HSBC told us that a reduction in footfall was to blame for the closure.

“We continually review our branch network to make sure our branches are in the right locations for our customers and we have a sustainable network for the future,” the spokesperson said.

“Over the past five years, we have seen an overall reduction in footfall at our branches of more than 40%, and sometimes we have to make the difficult decision to close branches. These are not decisions we take lightly and we work closely with those impacted, including customers and staff, to help them understand their options.

“We understand branch closures may cause concern for some of our customers.”

The bank said it had agreed a partnership with Hale Post Office to ensure some banking services could still be retained in the village, and its branch on Stamford New Road in Altrincham town centre will be remaining open.
