Altrincham is one of the top 10 suburbs in the country, a new study has claimed.
The Times has included the town in its list of the “top UK suburbs and other key commuter locations”.
The paper points to the quality of local property and schools for its inclusion.
It says: “Altrincham came second in Hamptons International’s list of the most expensive suburbs outside the M25. The price of an average family home is £528,984.
“It did, however, come top of another list in Hamptons’ research – 50 per cent of its schools were outstanding.
“Leafy and moneyed, Altrincham has excellent links to Manchester city centre and Manchester airport five miles away, making it one of the undisputed property kings pf the north.”
Altrincham has also been named one of the best places in the country to raise a family.
David Fell, a research analyst at Hamptons International, said that suburbs were a bellwether for the health of the housing market generally.
He said: “Thirtysomething ‘second and third-steppers’ continue to move out of city centres in droves looking for a bigger home, better schools and more green space. They tend to escape the extremes where prices fall less during downturns before rising more slowly during the subsequent recovery.”
The other nine places on the list were Summertown, Slough, Pollokshields, Otley, Blackhall, Clifton and Redland, Great Kneighton and Trumpington, Edgbaston and Chelmsford.
