A woman was robbed and threatened with a hammer during a violent burglary in West Timperley last night.
The 52-year-old was sleeping in the downstairs room of a house on Parkgate Road on the Stamford Brook development.
It’s understood she was working as a nanny in the house and was in her room while the family were in the upstairs area of the house.
Shortly before 7.40pm on Tuesday evening, a masked man forced his way into the property through a window and sat on the woman’s chest.
He then threatened her with a hammer, punched her in the face and placed his hands around her neck.
He only fled when she began screaming, stealing cash and a handbag containing £400 on the way.
The family then discovered the nanny injured, with blood pouring from her mouth.
The homeowner, a mother-of-three who works as a doctor alongside her husband, told the MEN: “At around 7.38pm I heard my nanny screaming. A burglar was punching and kicking her.
“He held her arms behind her back and threatened her with a hammer. Then he ran away. He took her handbag containing £400.
“He attacked a sleeping lady in the living room. She woke up with a man on her chest, he had his hands on her face and was kneeing her in the chest.
“He had a hammer in his right hand. She was screaming away. She pushed him off and when she screamed he ran away. It is not just a burglary, it is an assault.”
Police described the offender as white, wearing a black hoodie, black gloves and with a mask covering his face.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “Shortly before 7.40pm on Tuesday 13 December 2016 police were called to Parkgate Road to reports of a robbery.
“A man forced his way into a property, grabbed one of the occupants round the throat and threatened her with a hammer before stealing cash and a handbag and fleeing the scene.
“Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting incident number 1913 of 13/12, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
