A schoolboy has today been released from hospital after suffering an injury that led to the air ambulance being called to an under-14s rugby match at St Ambrose College.
The boy was playing for King’s School in Macclesfield against the Hale Barns school on Saturday morning.
He suffered a suspected concussion and a call was made at 11.08am to the North West Ambulance Service helicopter as it was close by at the time.
Several local residents and passing motorists saw the helicopter land and take off on the playing fields.
However, the helicopter was not used and after initial treatment the boy was transported to the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital by land ambulance.
Nigel Handy, director of sports at St Ambrose College, said he understood the boy’s injuries had not been serious and that he had been released from hospital earlier today.
