Storm Doris left a trail of destruction across Altrincham today, with numerous trees downed as winds of up to 70mph swept in.
Trees were reported to have been felled on Park Road and Whalley Road in Hale, Shay Lane in Hale Barns, Acresfield Road and Mayfield Road in Timperley, and Whitehouse Lane in Dunham Massey.
Other trees were downed on Grosvenor Road/Navigation Road and Burlington Road in Altrincham, and Cavendish Road in Bowdon.
One of the two large trees that stood in the centre of the first hole of Ringway Golf Club were also felled, a tree so iconic to the Hale Barns club that it comprised one half of its “two tree” logo.
The storm’s force also damaged a water mains in Timperley, leading to severe flooding on Stockport Road in the heart of the village.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service was unable to confirm exactly how many incidents it had attended in Altrincham, but between 8am and 4.30pm today had received around 150 calls in the whole of Greater Manchester and attended around 60 incidents.
Warren Pickstone, Head of Protection, said: “We’ve received a lot of calls today and credit has to go to all our staff for doing a fantastic job.
“Hopefully we have now seen the worst of the storm but the public should remain wary of areas that may have been damaged by the high winds, be it lose roof tiles or fallen trees that could cause injury.”
