Nando’s submits planning application for former McDonald’s site in Altrincham town centre

Global peri-peri chicken chain Nando’s has submitted a planning application for its new Altrincham restaurant.

Global peri-peri chicken chain Nando’s has submitted a planning application for its new Altrincham restaurant.

As exclusively revealed on Altrincham Today last month, the restaurant chain is looking to open a new outlet in the former McDonald’s on the corner of Stamford New Road and Cross Street.

Nando’s is already advertising for a 1st Assistant Manager for the restaurant.

And now it has submitted plans for various alterations regarding the restaurant’s frontage and signage.

The application is made by Nando’s Chickenland Ltd, the company behind more than 1,000 restaurants in 30 countries.

The plans also appear to show there will be room in the restaurant for 70 covers on the ground floor – it appears from the plans that, unlike predecessor McDonald’s, the first floor will not be used as a dining space.

Nando’s already has 13 restaurants in the Greater Manchester area, but its Trafford Centre restaurant is currently the closest to Altrincham.

The site on the corner of Cross Street and Stamford New Road – which was the home to McDonald’s for 23 years before its closure in 2007 – has been undergoing a complete renovation since October.

Lunar, the site’s owners, have made a significant investment in its refurbishment, with a 20-week programme of improvements set to be completed shortly.
