Bowdon’s Archie Phillips has been selected for the under-16 England hockey squad to play a series of international fixtures against top European teams.
The 16-year-old midfield playmaker, who joined the King’s School in Macclesfield from Altrincham Preparatory School, has come through the county, North West and North of England trials to earn full selection.
He is set to start in attacking midfield role for England against Netherlands at Lilleshall, with fixtures against Belgium and Germany to come.
Archie is already a key member of the Bowdon first team that finished in an impressive second place in the National League North this year.
He wants to play at a higher level but is currently preparing to sit 10 GCSEs this summer: “I’d like to concentrate on my studies and ultimately want to study medicine at university.”
