A murder inquiry has been launched after a former Altrincham restaurant boss was found dead at his home in Salford.
Giorgio Roncari, a 61-year-old Italian, was discovered at his two-bedroom flat on Blackburn Street at 7.20pm on Monday evening and is believed to have lain undiscovered for several days.
Police have today revealed that he was killed by “compression of the neck”, the Manchester Evening News reports, although detectives have not yet ruled out the possibility that his injuries were sustained accidentally or self-inflicted.
Roncari had most recently been manager at the now closed Avalanche restaurant in Manchester.
Mr Roncari, also known as Guiseppe, had previously been listed as a director of Home bar and restaurant in Little Bollington on the outskirts of Altrincham, which closed about three years ago.
And between 2005 and 2010 he was registered as a director of Sopranos, an Italian restaurant formerly based in King’s Court.
Tributes have flooded in to Mr Roncari’s Facebook page.
Navid Dean described him as a “wonderful kind-hearted man” while Stephen Smith said he was a “true gentleman & good friend”.
Officers are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
Det Insp Andy Butterworth, of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “In this extremely sad set of circumstances, I’d like to extend my condolences to Giuseppi’s family and all those affected by his death.
“We need people with information about his death to contact us so we can provide answers for his family who will have to deal with this traumatic news.”
