The best friends behind a new Altrincham bar say they are “100%” happy to have opened in the town as they launched a regular live music night.
James Fennell and Oliver Calveley acquired the former Apres Wine Bar site on Shaw’s Road and reopened it as The Cellar last month.
They’ve also successfully relaunched a West Didsbury bar called The Drawing Room – and they now seem to be having a similar impact in Altrincham.
“The first couple of weeks were fairly quiet but now it’s becoming more and more popular every single week,” said James. “Saturdays have been going from strength to strength since we launched.
“We’re 100% happy we opened here. It’s a great crowd, a more diverse crowd than Didsbury in terms of age, but we’ve got something for everyone.”
The pair, both 27, will soon be upping the bar’s number of draught beers from two to eight, alongside its 30-plus wine selection. It also has a two-for-£10 deal on all cocktails from 9pm with a bottle of Prosecco just £16 between 9pm and 12pm every night.
And now the bar is putting on live music after 9pm every Friday and Saturday.
“We really want to get it known for being a fun place,” added James. “We’re one of the only places in the Market Quarter with live music and we’re pretty sure we’re the only one open past 12.30. On Friday and Saturday we have people in until we shut at 2.30, which is great.
“We’ve also added about 30 seats inside, taking capacity to about 80.”
