A man was Tasered and detained under the Mental Health Act after he was seen with a knife in Hale earlier this afternoon.
Emergency services were called to South Road in Hale just after 2.10pm.
Officers attended the scene and a Taser was deployed.
Police detailed a 54-year-old man under the Mental Health Act.
A police spokesman said: “A referral will be made to GMP’s Professional Standards Branch and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time.”
